A few days ago we had capoeira music - now here's a link to some Muay Thai fight music. It sounds like bagpipes over drums! You can find Muay Thai gyms here.

Martial Arts Jobs on Craigslist
Everyone knows craigslist is a repository of weird and wacky personal ads, items for sale and jobs available. A quick search (and an alert reader) brought the following martial arts-related jobs to my attention:

Bouncers
http://newyork.craigslist.org/mnh/etc/26820457.html
http://newyork.craigslist.org/mnh/ret/26623599.html This one looks pretty high-end. You not only have to be at a minimum 6'4"/280 (with no more than a 36-inch waist), you also must have black belts in two martial arts, a license to carry in NYC, AND "You must be able to provide government documentation that you have used a firearm in a legal defensive situation. Neutralization is the perferred disposition of how you survived this ordeal." Whew.

Theatrical/Entertainment

http://newyork.craigslist.org/mnh/tfr/25587996.html
http://newyork.craigslist.org/mnh/tfr/25128638.html

Advertising
http://newyork.craigslist.org/mnh/tfr/25417766.html - Seeking Jim Kelly and Bruce Lee lookalikes!!
http://newyork.craigslist.org/mnh/sls/24932292.html - "Requirements: Must wear Ninja, Karate, Kung Fu uniform in public. Distribute flyers/coupons around Chelsea and Times Square, Manhattan." D'oh!

Instructors Wanted
http://newyork.craigslist.org/brx/npo/26627587.html
http://newyork.craigslist.org/mnh/edu/25813810.html
http://newyork.craigslist.org/mnh/etc/25113434.html "yoga studio and wellness center on one of the hippest blocks of Manhattan"

Who knew martial arts could be so profitable? Everyone quit your day jobs!

New Ad Scheme

You may have noticed I'm doing away with the colorful Amazon ads and replacing them with ads served by another company. Officially I'm not supposed to say anything like "please click our sponsors to help support the website," or "every click helps!" since that's considered cheating. So please, by all means, don't click the new ads to support the website (cough cough nudge). Click them only if you're really interested in what they have to offer.

I've been listening to capoeira music all morning, courtesy of Fanklub Sztuk Walki. Zum zum zum, Paranaue, even a few tracks from Only the Strong (also available for download are classics like Carl Douglas' "Kung Fu Fighting"). You can hear capoeira music live and in person in Manhattan and Brooklyn.

The 2004 NCJA Collegiate National Judo Championships were held at Florida International University in Miami this weekend. Approximately 130 contestants from 42 Colleges and Universities competed in the event, including Tanilla McDaniel and Shea Nero of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. Tanilla took silver in the women's 63 kg division, while Shea took a bronze in the women's 70 kg. Congratulations!

Martial Arts NY is now bloggerized! Essentially I've been hand-coding a blog-style webpage here on the front page for about a year - all those entries can be found by clicking the link on the bottom of this page. Enjoy!
